A heart-stopping, emotional, and thoroughly satisfying conclusion to a phenomenal series.
From fierce friendships, jumping through time loops, and the celebration of peculiarness, the Miss Peregrine’s Peculiar Children series is one of standout elements. There’s much we’re going to miss now that the six-book series has reached its end.
The Desolations of Devil’s Acre marks the last battle — the action-packed all-or-nothing showdown. And the risks are higher than they’ve ever been as the peculiar children (pitted against an impossible enemy) fight to save peculiardom, using their wits, courage, and peculiar abilities. Still, amid all that action, we get to witness our characters grow. Especially main character Jacob, for whom the end of book six feels like the emotional closing of a loop that opened in book one. There’s resolution. A goodbye. One last time, we get to hang out with Jacob, Emma, Horace, Noor, and co. as they jump through some of history’s most dangerous loops to keep a peculiar apocalypse (of sorts) from unfolding. As they deal with unexpected twists and deception. And, of course, the apocalypse that’s making itself known in the form of “desolations” that are dismantling peculiar safe-haven Devil’s Acre. The Desolations of Devil’s Acre, like all the books in the series, blends vintage photographs into its narrative, and the result is a wonderfully haunting atmosphere.
A show-stopping finale worthy of readers, and of course, Miss Peregrine’s wards.
